Rory Leonard from CGI is attending a meeting in relation to the proposed development of a Junior Committee and a boys and girls golf programme in Portsalon GC.
The meeting is taking place on Thursday March 19th at 7 pm in the clubhouse.
The future of the club is dependent on us having an active Juniors branch. Deirdre O'Toole has made a lot of progress with the junior girls. We want to do the same with the boys and build on it.
All interested in helping the club in any way in developing a policy and strategy and programme for juniors is asked to attend.
Golf has been played on the Portsalon links since the 1880's. The club was one of the founder members of the Golfing Union of Ireland, the oldest golfing union in the world.
Originally designed by Thompson of Portrush, the layout has evolved over the decades with significant changes being undertaken under the guidance of Pat Ruddy in 2000.
Currently ranked in the top 25 courses in Ireland by Golf Digest, Portsalon continues to progress, with the 2014 Ryder Cup captain, Paul McGinley, guiding further improvements.
Nestled under the Knockalla mountains and stretching along the magnificent Ballymastocker beach, a true test of links golf presents itself. Above all, a warm welcome awaits you.
Be part of it and experience Portsalon!
The Captain and Lady Captain thank all who played in the drive in on January 25th. Almost 100 players took part and the open draw scramble format proved popular on a day when the weather held up. The results are available on the results page.
Sean McGettigan has completed over 10 years providing Bar and catering services in Portsalon Golf Club. The club made a presentation to him after the drive in for his contribution to the club over that time. He was popular with a wide range of members and worked hard at building up the business.
Roisin Gibbons (who has worked with Sean over the years) has taken over the lease and all in the club wish her the very best in the future.
