Not only did our new Lady Captain Deirdre Hensey have her drive-in on Sunday 10th of February but her mother, Kathleen McCormick also teed off 2013 as Club President. Along with the honour that comes with both of these positions, the year should accumulate many memories that they will both be able to treasure forever.
With Mr. Captain Joe Harkin they braved the elements to get proceedings underway with a team classic. To say conditions were damp would be somewhat of an understatement, but this had no effect on the atmosphere of the occasion or Joe’s dancing on the first tee!

McCormick is Portsalon’s Club President
Congratulations to Kathleen McCormick who was appointed President of Portsalon Golf Club at its Club AGM on Friday last.
As the first woman appointed as President of the Club, she is no stranger to holding high office where on two occasions she was Lady Captain, 1985 and in 1991. Kathleen is an ardent supporter of the club and has been an active member of the Ladies Committee holding various positions since her involvement in the Club began over thirty years ago. Her experience and enthusiasm for all things Portsalon has rubbed off on her family and in particular her daughter Deirdre Hensey who is Lady Captain of the Club this year.
Congratulations to them both, we wish them a great year ahead.
The Ladies branch held their AGM on Saturday 19th January in the Club House and created a little piece of history as Noreen McConigley stepped aside to welcome President, Kathleen McCormick and Lady Captain, Deirdre Hensey and her committee.
Remarking that it’s an historical day for Portsalon GC as this marks the first occasion to have a member from the Ladies Branch as Club President but to also have a mother and daughter hold such prestigious positions within the club, is truly remarkable.
The Portsalon Ladies Committee for 2013 is:
Lady Captain, Deirdre Hensey,
Lady Vice Captain, Sarah Nicholl,
Hon. Secretary, Rose Anne Logue,
Hon. Handicap Secretary, Betty Boal,
Hon, Competition Secretary, Mae Blaney,
